Maya Jama finally addresses Strictly rumours

TV presenter Maya Jama has finally addressed rumours that she is set to appear in Strictly – revealing that she was asked but turned the opportunity down.

The 23-year-old revealed that now just wasn’t quite the right time and that she wanted to become more well-known before competing.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain earlier today, she said: "Not for now. I think I’d want to let people know more who I am a bit more. I don’t want to be that one that people are like, ‘Who’s that?!’"

Ben Shephard also revealed that he had been asked to do the show, but it was his wife who didn’t want him to do it.

The Strictly curse looms over every contestant’s partner every year – and Ben revealed that his wife Annie Perks, who he has been married to since 2004, is very conscious of it.

So conscious, in fact, that she definitely does NOT want him to appear on the BBC show.

While presenting This Morning today, Ben revealed: "I did get asked this year but I can’t do it unfortunately because she doesn’t want to have an affair."

When his co-host Mollie King laughed he shrugged: "I think she’s being very short-sighted!"

And it looks like her fears are founded, if Eamonn Holmes’ words are anything to go by!

Earlier this month the 58-year-old presenter jokingly admitted that Strictly almost ended his marriage to Ruth Langsford .

Ruth took part in the BBC dancing competition with longtime pro Anton Du Beke last year.

And speaking about the show today, Ruth admitted that she was "getting a bit jealous" hearing about all the celebrities who could be taking part.

She said: "I’ve got the green-eyed monster going, ‘I’d like to do that again!’"

Eamonn made a face as she insisted that they should let people have another try.

"Did you just say you’d like to do that again?" Eamonn asked incredulously.

"Because I think I’d be much better next time," she replied.

Ever the gentleman, Eamonn quipped: "You couldn’t get any worse!"

He added: "What the heck do you want to do that for? It was nearly the end of our marriage!"

She laughed and he continued: "I would understand if you had any sort of remote sort of talent…"

Ruth snarked: "Like you, you mean? Snake hips Eamonn Holmes?"

"I have never said that i can dance, unlike some people," he said.

"Good," she snapped, "because you can’t".
