EastEnders fans can't wait for Shirley Carter and Stuart Highway's showdown

EastEnders viewers were once again nerve-wracked as Kat Slater came one step closer to learning the truth about Hayley, while one of the Carters set up a showdown with Stuart Highway.

Hayley (Katie Jarvis) was in a panic on Monday’s (August 6) episode when Kat (Jessie Wallace) cornered her and demanded to know when she’d last heard from Alfie.

Although Hayley initially tried covering her tracks so Kat wouldn’t discover the truth of her pregnancy, she ultimately agreed to help when Kat admitted that she was just hoping to speak to the twins on their birthday.

Hayley placed a secret call to Alfie with an ultimatum ordering him to put the twins in contact with Kat, but soon regretted her actions when Jean (Gillian Wright) barged in to ask what she’d done to upset Kat.

As Hayley furiously packed her belongings in a bid to sneak away, Kat again surprised her by inviting her into the kitchen for a video call with the kids — meaning that Alfie had complied with Hayley’s threat without telling Kat the truth.

Hayley was safe for now, but fans know that a reckoning is coming:

In last Friday’s cliffhanger, Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) had broken into the Vic after enlisting Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau) to steal the keys from Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) purse.

This week picked up with the Carters finding an unsettling “sorry” note left for them, which Halfway (Tony Clay) identified from the handwriting as being from Stuart.

Although the family resolved not to tell Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White), Mick (Danny Dyer) refused to keep any more secrets… until he saw how shaken his sister already was.

Instead of terrifying her further, Mick took Tina and Linda on a mini-getaway to Southend, while back at the Vic, a vengeful Shirley (Linda Henry) asked Halfway to set up a meeting with his brother.

“Tell him it’s an official invite. No need to break in this time,” Shirley sneered.

That might not have been the best idea, because the cliffhanger of the episode featured Stuart scratching Halfway’s face out old family photos. Yikes…

Elsewhere, Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) grew concerned for young Dennis Rickman’s wellbeing after the boy fell-in with a gang of kids who seem to be trafficking in stolen cell phones.

EastEnders continues on Tuesday (August 7) at 7.30pm on BBC One.
