Channel 5 to air tribute to entertainer Barry Chuckle during Chuckle Time with the Chuckle Brothers

Channel 5 will air a tribute to Barry Chuckle tonight (August 5) following the sad news that the veteran entertainer has died at the age of 73.

Barry, whose real name is Barry Elliott, was best known as one half of the comedy duo Chuckle Brothers that he formed with his brother Paul, and the duo were working on their Channel 5 series Chuckle Time with the Chuckle Brothers before he passed.

Channel 5 has now confirmed that tonight’s planned episode of Chuckle Time will be a tribute to Barry, which will air as scheduled at 6.10pm.

“Channel 5 is saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Chuckle,” a spokesperson for the channel told Digital Spy.

“As one half of the Chuckle Brothers, Barry entertained audiences over a career spanning decades; more recently, Chuckle Time was a teatime family treat on our channel. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Barry’s manager Phil Dale confirmed the news of Barry’s passing today in a statement.

“It is with great sadness that the family announce that Barry passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Ann and all his family,” he said.

“The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have been fans of the Chuckle Brothers and they know that they will share in part the great, great loss they feel.”

Barry’s brother and comedy partner Paul also shared a brief statement, adding: “I’ve not just lost my brother, I’ve lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend.”

As well as his family and friends, several celebrities have also shared their tributes to Barry, including Benidorm creator Darren Litten, Tynchy Stryder and Olly Murs, among many others.

Chuckle Time with the Chuckle Brothers airs tonight (August 5) on Channel 5 at 6:10pm.
