Actor Akshay Kumar has started shooting for historical drama Prithviraj. Sonu Sood also joined Akshay at the shoot that began over the weekend. The Yash Raj Films project is based on the life of King Prithviraj Chauhan. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the magnum opus also marks the Bollywood debut of former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, who plays the character of Sanyogita, the love interest of King Prithviraj, to be played by Akshay. Manushi is set to join the cast on Tuesday. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt.
The filming of a major chunk of the movie got completed before the coronavirus pandemic. YRF has now built an extravagant set inside the YRF Studios compound, and the shooting has been planned with strict safety precautions in place.
According to a trade source, “Akshay started the shoot on the 10th, and it will be an intense shooting schedule. Sonu Sood has also started shooting from the 10th. The team has worked non-stop to ensure that everything was in place for this complex shooting schedule to restart. It’s great news that big films are starting to shoot again as it will make others more confident to restart the industry. We have heard that Manushi joins the shoot on the 13th of this month and Sanjay Dutt will start post Diwali to complete his portions.”
Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi said in a statement, “Yes, we have resumed Prithviraj shoot at YRF studios, and the entire team is excited to have a great shooting schedule.”
In the meantime, the makers of Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh starrer Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari announced on Monday that the comic caper will have a theatrical release on November 13. They also released a poster of the Abhishek Sharma directorial.
Set in the 90s, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari also stars Annu Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Nehha Pendse, Manuj Sharma, Neeraj Sood, Abhishek Banerjee, Vijay Raaz, Karishma Tanna and Vanshikha Sharma.

Manoj Bajpayee starrer Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari will hit screens on November 13, 2020. The film, directed by Abhishek Sharma, stars Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh along with Manoj Bajpayee in the lead roles. The news comes days after indianexpress.com reported that Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari would be among the first films to hit screens as cinema halls reopen in some states on October 15. Arjun Kapoor took to his social media account to share that he is back on the sets of his upcoming film, post his recovery from Covid-19. “I’m back to my happy place ❤️❤️,” wrote Arjun. The yet-to-be-titled film also stars Rakul Preet Singh.
Producer Boney Kapoor has bought the remake and dubbing rights of Malayalam film Prathi Poovankozhi (2019)
Rosshan Andrrews directorial Prathi Poovankozhi, based on Unni R’s short story Sankadam, revolves around a woman (Manju Warrier) trying to take on an eve teaser.
It is yet to be decided if the film will be remade in Hindi or other south Indian languages.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is riding high on the success of his recent film Serious Men, directed by Sudhir Mishra, has more films in the pipeline. The actor is now set to collaborate with producer Umesh Shukla for a film to be directed by Sejal Shah.
Speaking about the film, Nawazuddin Siddiqui said in a statement, “I am always searching for roles which are challenging and quirky and stories which are exciting and have something to say. With this interesting group of people coming together, you can expect the unexpected from us.”
Umesh Shukla said, “Heroes are amongst us. We simply choose not to see. Ordinary people who achieved the extraordinary. And who else but Nawaz to bring a story alive and make us care. This movie is heartfelt, thrilling and most importantly, it will entertain you. Be prepared for a mad ride.”
Director Sejal Shah added, “Nawaz is a director’s dream. I am absolutely thrilled and excited that he is part of my movie. He just makes everything look better. And everything you want possible.”
