Man held for abetting abuse of minor

The Pothanikkad police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly abetting a man accused in a POCSO case in which a minor girl turned pregnant in April.

The arrested man was identified as Shan Muhammed, 38. He is accused of helping to medically terminate the pregnancy. Besides, he was also booked for not alerting government agencies about the child abuse despite being aware of it.

Gold seized at RGIA

Gold weighing 895.20 grams valued at ₹43.55 lakh was seized from an international passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, here on Friday.

The accused passenger, who arrived from Sharjah by Air Arabia G9458, concealed gold in the form of paste inside his undergarments.

The Hyderabad Customs booked a case for smuggling of gold against the passenger. Further investigations are under progress.

Alappuzha reports 2,086 COVID-19 new cases

District records TPR of 18.34%

Alappuzha district logged 2,086 COVID-19 new cases on Friday. The test positivity rate (TPR) for the day was recorded at 18.34%.

Of the fresh cases, 2,055 patients contracted the disease through local transmission, while the source of infection of 29 others remains unknown. Two health-care staff also tested positive. As many as 912 persons tested negative.

2 constables arrested in extortion case

Two Delhi Police constables have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from businessmen, the police said on Tuesday. The arrests were made after complaints surfaced about three persons involved in kidnapping and extorting money from businessmen.

The accused used to impersonate other policemen and threaten the victims.
