Four people have been booked for allegedly raping a 27-year-old married woman and attempting to murder her by hanging in a village in Kalayat subdivision of Kaithal district.
As per the complaint filed by the victim, the incident took place on the night of August 3, when she was at home with her two children as her husband had gone away to Chandigarh for some work.
She alleged the accused entered her house forcibly and tied her hands with her scarf. Three of them raped her and also tried to kill her by hanging her with an iron girder. However, the knot of the rope with which she was hanged loosened and she fell down.
She informed her husband over phone and was later taken to hospital. On August 4, she filed the police complaint against the accused. According to the police, two of the accused were identified as Kuldeep Singh, 26, and Satish Kumar, 25, of Balu village of the district.
Police on Monday arrested Kuldeep. He was produced in a local court, which remanded him in one-day police custody. When contacted, Kalayat police station in-charge Kashmir Singh said the accused were booked under Sections 307, 376 D, 506, 452, 323 and 34 of the IPC.
He said Kuldeep, who has constructed a roadside Dhaba in Kalayat, has given it on rent to Satish, the other accused. During the interrogation, he said, Kuldeep told the police that after committing the crime, they were worried that she could disclose their names to the police, so they decided to murder her.
