Mithali Raj looks different, doesn’t she?

Taapsee Pannu has started shooting for Shabaash Mithu, the Mithali Raj biopic.

Dressed in cricket gear, Taapsee looks the part.

This is the second sports-based lead character for Taapsee. A few weeks ago, she wrapped shooting Rashmi Rocket, where she plays a track and field athlete.

Eshwarappa coming tomorrow

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayatraj K.S. Eshwarappa will tour Dakshina Kannada for two days from April 7. He will arrive at the international airport here at 4.10 p.m. He will review the progress of projects and schemes of his department in the zilla panchyat hall at 5 p.m. The Minister will participate in local programmes at 10 a.m. on April 8 and leave for Bengaluru at 4.40 p.m. the same day.

Water level in Periyar dam stood at 126.95 feet (permissible level is 142 ft.) on Tuesday, with an inflow of 59 cusecs and a discharge of 300 cusecs. In Vaigai dam, the level was 63.91 ft. (71 ft.), with nil inflow and a discharge of 72 cusecs. Combined storage in Periyar credit was 6,485 mcft. Thekkadi recorded a rainfall of 5 mm in the 24 hours ending 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

Chola joins consortium for retail payments

Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Co. Ltd. (Chola) has joined a consortium ‘Vishwakarma Payments Pvt. Ltd.’ for retail payments. Chola said in a filing that it is part of the consortium, which includes FSS, Zoho, Zerodha and RazorPay, that has applied for an umbrella entity licence for retail payments to the RBI.

Senior citizen dies after casting vote

A senior citizen died after exercising his franchise in the Papanasam constituency in Thanjavur district on Tuesday.

Arjunan, 62, of Ayyampettai, cast his vote at a school near his house. Suddenly, he swooned and was rushed to the government taluk hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. He had a history of low blood pressure.

Body of youth found in Hassan

A 22-year-old youth was allegedly murdered in Hassan.

The incident came to light on Monday, when the body of Manoj alias Manu, a resident of Doddamandiganahalli near Hassan, was found near Kandali.

The Hassan Rural Police have registered a case based on a complaint by Manoj’s mother Shobha.

The police have suspected it to be a case of murder for personal rivalry.

80.04% polled in Namakkal district

The district recorded 80.04% polling in the Assembly held in six constituencies here on Tuesday. Votes polled in each constituency were Rasipuram (SC) 82.05%, Senthamangalam (ST) 80.93%, Namakkal 78.57%, Paramathi – Velur 81.14%, Tiruchengodu 78.71% and Kumarapalayam 78.85%.

Equitas SFB advances surge 16% to ₹17,896 crore

Equitas Small Finance Bank Ltd. (SFB) has reported a 16% year-on-year rise in gross advances to ₹17,896 crore while total deposits rose 52% year-on-year to ₹16,391 crore. Current account savings account (CASA) deposits more than doubled to ₹5,613 crore against ₹2,208 crore, according to a regulatory filing by the bank. The lender said all figures were provisional.

Film festival from today

As part of its silver jubilee celebrations, Chitra Film Society, Dharwad, will screen films directed and acted by late Raj Kapoor from Thursday to Saturday. A.M. Khan of Chitra Film Society has in a release said that on Thursday, Boot Polish will be screened at 6.15 p.m. at Srujana Ranga Mandir on Karnatak College campus. The film, Jagate Raho, will be screened on Friday and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai on Saturday.
