Ever since Om Raut announced his next with pan-India star Prabhas, we could not stop thinking about it for a minute. Titled Adipurush, not much details were released early on but the title and Prabhas’ name intrigued everyone. Add to that Om Raut’s vision who gave the biggest hit of the year, Tanhaji The unsung warrior. Their collaboration has already got the audience on their side. For those who are new here, Adipurush is said to be a mythological epic film wherein Prabhas will play the role of Lord Rama while Saif Ali Khan will once again turn antagonist for Om with Lankesh. On the other hand, Ajay Devgn will step in for the role of Lord Shiva in the film. With an interesting cast and an epic subject, it’s not a surprise that the film is a mega-budget one. As per the latest report in Pinkvilla, the Om Raut directorial has a mammoth budget of a whopping Rs 400 crore. This is indeed the first megabudget Indian film after COVID crisis.
Om Raut told Pinkvilla how Adipurush was drafted. “I had done a research on this in the past. The lockdown was a blessing in disguise for me. As a writer, I could be in my place and plan this whole project. There was this script that I had on my mind and that’s how Adipurush happened. I had written one draft years ago but we changed a lot of things when we revisited the idea now,” he said.
Tanhaji which was a visual spectacle, when prodded about audiences’ expectations with Adipurush, the director said, “The idea is to bring a technique that has never been used in films before. I love making it look grand and visually stunning. Plus, Prabhas is the biggest superstar we have in entire India right now. So when we told him about the film, he was very happy and interested. I couldn’t have asked for a better hero.”
Ever since, Baahubali, all of Prabhas’ films are megabudget. Such is the appeal of this massy, classy superstar. A source close to the development of the same told the portal that Adipurush would be the biggest production after Baahubalo for the actor. “While many are slashing down budgets and cost of production, Om and Bhushan are dreaming big with Adipurush. It will be the biggest Indian film to release in theatres post Covid-19. It will have a lot of VFX work involved and a technique never seen before in Indian films. They are planning to mount it on a lavish scale and a whopping budget of Rs 350-400 crore is set just for the shoot and production of Adipurush,” the source told the portal.
