Katy Perry to bring ‘fireworks’ to event in city

American singer will headline at OnePlus Music Festival alongside British pop star Dua Lipa

American singer Katy Perry arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday morning, three days ahead of her performance as the headlining act of the first edition of the OnePlus Music Festival. The concert will take place on Saturday November 16 at the D Y Patil Sports Statdium in Nerul.

The ‘Roar’ singer addressed media at a press conference in the city. Also present were Vikas Agarwal, general manager, OnePlus India; Tilen Pigac, OnePlus’s head of community; and Devraj Sanyal, managing director and chief executive officer of Universal Music Group, India and South Asia. “I am extremely happy to be back in India,” gushed Ms. Perry, alluding to her 2012 performance which kick-started the Indian Premier League in Chennai. “It’s been far too long, and you all have waited for so long. I’ve taken that into account and the OnePlus Music Festival is going to be a feast for your eyes, your ears and we will make it a night to remember,” she said.

The festival was conceptualised as a community building endeavour to help create a recall value for OnePlus. “We believe that the music festival will provide us [with] a platform that will [create] brand loyalty and strengthen our connect,” said Mr. Pigac.

Mr. Sanyal said that Ms. Perry is an artiste who is constantly committed towards reinventing herself. “She is always pushing the creative envelope and never fails to disappoint her fans across the world,” he said, adding, “As a label we are proud to represent her and be a part of her journey in the industry.”

Ms. Perry — who shot to fame with her 2008 single ‘I Kissed a Girl’ — will be headlining the OnePlus Music Festival along with British pop star Dua Lipa, famous for songs such as ‘New Rules’ and ‘One Kiss’. Homegrown talent sharing the stage with the two international artistes include composer Amit Trivedi, producer Ritviz from Pune, Hindi indie band The Local Train, and post-modern rock outfit Aswekeepsearching.

Tickets for the OnePlus Music Festival are priced at ₹3,000 onwards. See for details.
