The first T20I three-day match between India and West Indies is going to be held today. As KL Rahul was ruled out due to a hamstring injury, now, Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli have become India’s opening options in series, alongside Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan played plenty of matches against both seamers and spinners.
It’s unlikely the team management’s decision, they may promote Venkatesh Iyer as the opener. So far, the batting allrounder has been used down the order in all his matches, notwithstanding his opening exploits for Kolkata Knight Riders. Last year, fans got a glimpse of what the team’s two best batsmen could do, when they paired up at the top in the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad.
White-ball batting felt like music with the lightness of touch, with Rohit Waltzing to a 34-ball 64 and Kohli remaining unbeaten on 80 off 52 balls, against the likes of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan and Ben Stokes. There was a fact that the combination of Rohit and Rahul did not click in the first match of the ICC event, against Pakistan.
While in the second game against New Zealand, Rohit dropped to third position to accommodate Ishan Kishan at the top, while Kohli came to fourth, and India went out of the T20 World Cup with a groan.
