India is celebrating its 74th Independence Day on Saturday. To mark the beginning of the celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajghat at 7am and pay his tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. After that, he will proceed to the Red Fort from where he will address the nation in his second Independence Day speech of his second term in power.
Seventy-three years of independence from the British rule will be celebrated in a subdued manner as India continues to tackle the coronavirus crisis that has claimed over 48,000 lives and infected over 2.46 million people across the country.
Over 1,500 “coronavirus winners” who recovered from the disease, will attend the function in a symbol of the citizens’ determination to fight the pandemic and emerge winners.
