Accused saw victim withdrawing cash from bank; robbed her on her way back
A couple and their accomplice have been arrested for allegedly robbing a woman of cash and jewellery at gunpoint in south-east Delhi’s New Friends Colony, the police said on Friday.
The accused couple were identified as Jubair (23) and Huda (21), residents of Aligarh, and their accomplice as Adnan (20), a resident of Ghaziabad, they said.
The incident took place on March 5, when the 35-year-old woman along with her husband and two children was returning home on their motorcycle after visiting a bank in New Friends Colony, the police said.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that she had withdrawn ₹1 lakh from the bank and had kept the money in her handbag, which already had ₹35,000 in it. Around 12.10 p.m., when they reached near Ashoka Park, three bike-borne men, who had been following them, intercepted their motorcycle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said.
The accused persons robbed the victim of the bag filled with cash and her gold chain at gunpoint and fled the spot, Mr. Biswal said.
In one of the CCTV footage, suspicious movement of a man and a woman in the bank has been spotted.
Investigations revealed that the persons who were seen suspiciously moving inside the bank, had no account or any other work at the said bank. They were later identified as one Huda, wife of a wanted criminal of western UP, Jubair, Mr. Biswal said.
Following a tip-off, Jubair was arrested on April 18 from his flat at Zakir Nagar in Jamia Nagar and a countrymade pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from his possession. Subsequently, his wife Huda was arrested from Chattarpur, he added.
Huda and her juvenile accomplice were looking for a target at the bank when they spotted the victim withdrawing the cash. Huda then informed Jubair over the phone and he arrived along with other gang members, Salman and Adnan, and started waiting outside the bank. Thereafter, the accused persons intercepted the victim’s bike and robbed her on gunpoint, the officer said.
Meanwhile, Adnan was arrested on Wednesday from Aligarh, following a brief chase wherein he had opened fire on the police team before being held. One countrymade pistol and three live cartridges were seized from his possession, Mr. Biswal said.
Jubair shifted his base from Aligarh to Delhi over the last few months and was looking forward to extend his area of operations. He has been involved in several heinous crime, including murder, the police said.
