The city will host Cobx Masters 2019, one of the largest offline international eSports tournaments, from Friday to Sunday at NESCO in Goregaon (East).
Some of the world’s top video game professional players such as Danil ‘Dendi’ Ishutin from team Tigers, Gleb ‘Funn1k’ Lipatnikov from team Aachen City E-sports, Oliver ‘Dickstacy’ Tierney from team Grayhound, and Hyun-Pyo ‘XigN’ Lee from team MVP PK will be participating in the tournament.
The teams will be competing to win the $2,00,000 (approximately ₹1.4 crore) prize money, which will be split equally across two titles: DOTA 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. This is the second leg of the tournament. A winner among the audience can bag a prize money of ₹2 lakh.
Rajdip Gupta, co-founder, Cobx Gaming, said, “The Indian eSports segment is still in a nascent stage and we are trying to streamline it. The fundamental objective of conducting the tournament is to attract the maximum number of international professional teams to India and place the country on the global eSports map.”
He added, “We want to demonstrate that gaming can be a lucrative career option, not just for young gamers, but also for talented individuals who are a part of this industry. This is a big-impact tournament that paves the way for the future of the industry in India.”
The Indian teams that are participating include Signify, Entity, and Global eSports.
