Braving chill, devotees throng temple on Vaikuntha Ekadasi

Bhadradri shrine reverberates with ‘Jai Sri Ram’ chants

Undeterred by hazy weather conditions, scores of devotees from far and wide took part in the Vaikuntha (Uttara) Dwara Darsanam ritual at the historic Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple on the occasion of Vaikunta (Mukkoti) Ekadasi festival on Tuesday.

Steeped in spiritual bliss, a sizeable number of devotees gathered at the ornately decorated Uttara Dwaram (north entrance) of the temple in the early hours of the day, braving the winter chill.

Amid recital of Vedic hymns, the temple priests opened the flower bedecked Uttara Dwaram before the crack of dawn enabling the devotees to offer prayers to the impressively adorned processional idols of Lord Rama, His consort Sita and brother Lakshmana from Uttara Dwaram. The shrine reverberated with “Jai Sri Ram” slogans.

Hyderabad High Court judge, Justice B. Siva Sankara Rao, principal District and Sessions judge of Khammam, M. Lakshman were among those who offered prayers at the temple.
