Youth Congress activists took out a march from the Calicut International Airport at Karipur to the Vallikkunnu railway station in the district on Friday, marking a run-up to their Parliament march to be held in Delhi on Tuesday.
The Parliament march is being organised to protest against the Central government’s negligence towards the Karipur airport and Malappuram district.
Inaugurating the march organised by Youth Congress Malappuram parliament committee at Karipur, Youth Congress State president Dean Kuriakose said the protest was that of the entire Malabar. Youth Congress parliament committee president Riyas Mukkoli presided.
Global vice president of the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) Ahamed Pulikkal, Youth Congress leaders P. Nidheesh, and P.K. Noufal Babu spoke. The protesters were given a reception at the Vallikkunnu railway station. As many as 110 protesters went to Kozhikode by train, and proceeded to Delhi on Mangala Express.
The rest would reach the capital on Monday. Senior Congress leader A.K. Antony will inaugurate the Parliament march on Tuesday.
K.C. Venugopal, Mullappally Ramachandran, Shashi Tharoor, Kodikkunnil Suresh, M.K. Raghavan, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, and M.I. Shanavas, MPs, will attend.
