The Tambaram police have arrested a 60-year-old conman who used to divert the attention of old women and steal their jewellery.
According to the police, Kanakavalli, 68, of Tambaram had visited a temple in Mullai Nagar on August 31. “When she was in line, a man clad in yellow dhoti and white shirt and with sandal paste on his forehead stole her chain after diverting her attention by asking her to walk fast in the line,” said a police officer.
She lodged a complaint with the Tambaram police. Inspector R. Kamala Kannan investigated the case and found that Murali, a habitual offender, was involved in the case.
