TPCC chief promises sops for ex-servicemen

The next Congress government will provide housing plots to all ex-servicemen, and Sainik colonies will be established in all 31 districts of Telangana, said Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Mr. Reddy, who addressed a press conference here along with TPCC manifesto committee chairman Damodar Rajanarasimha, said that ex-servicemen would also be given Rs. 5 lakh grant for construction of their houses and another Rs. 5 lakh bank loan would be arranged.

Mr. Uttam Reddy, who himself is a former officer with the Indian Air Force, said soldiers spend best part of their lives serving the country on borders in both war and peace time and it is the responsibility of the government and society to take care of their needs when they retire. Unfortunately, the TRS government did not provide any benefits to the ex-servicemen despite norms by the Central government on allotment of lands and residential plots. He said it was the previous Congress regime that had allotted lands to ex-servicemen but the Revenue Department did not give possessions of allotted lands.

He said Central laws of providing 2% reservation in education for children of ex-servicemen would be followed seriously and the Congress government would provide ex-servicemen 2% quota in government jobs as per the Central government norms.

The Special Police Officers recruited from the ex-servicemen would be given benefits on par with regular police force.

Telangana Ex-servicemen Federation chairman Karunakar Reddy and others were present.
