A security has blanket has been thrown over Paderu in the Visakhapatnam Agency for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit slated for Thursday.
The enhancement of the security cover comes with the Girijana Sangham asking the tribal people to oppose Mr. Naidu’s visit to Paderu and appealing to them to observe a ‘Black Day’.
The move of Girijana Sangham came after the Central government stating that the NALCO had sought permission to undertake mining activities in the Blocks I, II and III of Jerrela and Gudem.
It may be noted that the bauxite mining issue has been a major plank for the Maoists to garner support in the Agency area.
Keeping this in mind, the authorities has beefed up the security as Mr. Naidu is already in the hitlist of the left-wing extremists.
The Chief Minister had earlier survived a near fatal attack in Alipiri of Tirupati in 2003.
Though the Chief Minister will fly by a helicopter from Visakhapatnam airport to Chintalaveedhi in Paderu, he is scheduled to travel by a bus to Adarimetta where he would attend a grama sabha and a public meeting.
The police have intensified checking of vehicles and set up check-posts at all entry points to Paderu. Road opening parties have been deployed on the entire route. “The APSP Police and Greyhounds have been engaged in combing operations. Sniffer dogs and bomb squads have been deployed. The venue will be under CCTV surveillance and drones will also be used,” said sources.
