Ticket checking drive held

A team of officers of the Commercial branch of the Salem Railway Division conducted a ticket checking drive in the Jolarpettai – Erode passenger train on Monday and booked 51 cases of ticketless travel.

The team led by A. Vijuvin, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, conducted the surprise check in the train between Lokur and Tinnapatti railway stations and collected a fine of Rs. 14,165 from the defaulters.

An official press release of the Salem Division issued here said that official teams conducted surprise inspection in the running trains to check unauthorised travellers in reserved coaches, ticketless travelling, and improper ticketing with a view to improving passenger service. Similar checks would be conducted at regular intervals throughout the Salem division, the release said and called upon the travelling public to travel with proper ticket and produce the same on request by the ticket checking staff to avoid penalty. The release said that a total of 75,736 ticketless travel cases were registered in Salem Division from April to July this year and a sum of Rs. 3.12 crore was realised as penalty from the ticketless travellers.

The division also booked 1,745 unbooked luggage cases during the period and Rs. 7.75 lakh was collected as fine, the release added.
