The District Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert after the three shutters of the Thenmala dam were raised by 105 cm on Friday.
The water level in the dam reached 115.62 metres on Friday evening and the shutters will be raised further if the water level keeps going up.
All panchayats on the banks of the Kallada river have been instructed by the authorities to stay cautious. Residents of Pattazhi, Vadakkekara, and Piravanthur were warned of a possible inundation and four families were shifted from Chirakkara village where the chances of landslide are high. Nine members from the three families were provided shelter at the panchayat’s Pakalveedu, a home for the elderly, while the fourth family moved to a relative’s home.
