Theatre fest to start tomorrow

The Hindu
Theatre Fest 2018 will kick-off this weekend with a mix of plays that will make you think, and laugh.

On Friday (August 10),
Aurat! Aurat! Aurat!
(
Ismat Apa ke Naam 3
), directed by Naseeruddin Shah and produced by Motley, will be staged at Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Chetpet. The play, a series of monologues by an all-female cast will bring alive the powerful and feminist world of Ismat Chughtai. The third part of
Ismat Apa Ke Naam
, is a reflection of Ismat Chughtai’s concern for the state of womanhood at the time she lived in, and her anger at the condescension women were and in a sense are subjected to.

On Saturday (August 11),
Detective 9-2-11,
directed by Atul Kumar and produced by The Company Theatre, at the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Chetpet, will be an adventure tale that traces the journey of an ordinary man with an extraordinary story to tell. Packed with romance, murder, deceit, and suspense, the play is a culmination of Bollywood black and white, graphic novels and gangster films, that come together in a comic noir style.

At the same venue,
Barff
on Sunday (August 12), directed by Saurabh Shukla and produced by AGP World, is a play set in the backdrop of picturesque Kashmir, where beauty, fear and silence co-exist. Saurabh Shukla’s thriller,
Barff,
is an existential story of the very idea of truth, reality and trust.
Barff
unfolds over one night and tells the story of desperate parents of an ailing child and an unsuspecting doctor, who are caught in a whirlwind of conflicting questions on these ideas.
