A. Suresh, 42, of Keezhapanchapatti in Kulithalai taluk in Karur district, who was involved in a series of car thefts, was arrested on Tuesday.
He had several cases booked against him for theft of cars and smuggling of arrack in Tiruchi, Dindigul, Chennai, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts.
A team was formed following a complaint of a theft of a car parked along Circuit House Road here last month. A press release said the team nabbed him near Tiruchi railway junction. He confessed that he, along with his friends, had planned to indulge in smuggling of red sanders and spirit and stolen six cars from various places in the State. The cars were stolen from Chennai, Tiruchi and Kancheepuram districts.
On the basis of information given by him, the team recovered six stolen cars and seized gold jewellery weighing 30 sovereigns which he had allegedly burgled from a house in Woraiyur police station limits on August 1. The accused was later lodged in the Central Prison, Tiruchi.
