The Shobha Yatra organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal to mark the immersion of “Hindu Maha Ganapathi” idol here on Saturday received a huge response with more than one lakh people from different parts of the region, including Davangere, Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru and Shivamogga, taking part in it.
The yatra began at 10 a.m. from the zilla panchayat road and passed through the main streets of the town. All the streets were decorated with saffron flags.
Many organisations, including Jain Sangh, arranged food and drinking water for the participants of the yatra at different locations.
Ample security arrangements were made by the district police, and additional forces were deployed to ensure law and order.
Traffic on all major roads was diverted. Long distance buses were diverted near Challakere Gate and JMIT Circle.
