‘She dreamt of becoming a doctor’

Nine-year-old D. Manikeertana, who was crushed to death as the dais in her school collapsed on Thursday, dreamt of becoming a doctor and taking good care of me, said D. Padmamma, her grandmother, with tears rolling down her cheeks.

at New Century Public School in Vivekananda Nagar Colony in Kukatpally here, where her granddaughter’s body was brought after autopsy in Gandhi Hospital here, she said Manikeertana was a meritorious student and would always take care of her younger brother.

Manikeertana’s parents, Venkatesh and Swarnalatha, migrated to Hyderabad from Nalgonda in search of livelihood. Venkatesh works with a private chit fund here. “Pandu (Manikeertana) was very excited to attend karate class. We never expected it to end in a disaster,” she said.
