Sabarimala: Jaimala pained by opposition to court’s verdict

Jaimala, Minister for Women and Child Development, has said that she was pained by the ongoing opposition to allowing women in the age group of 10 to 50 to go to Sabarimala.

Ms. Jaimala had courted controversy when she claimed that she had visited Sabarimala in 1986, when she was 27 years old. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, she said, “My faith in the law has been enhanced with the verdict delivered by the Supreme Court on allowing women of all ages to visit the temple. Religious freedom is guaranteed to every individual by the Constitution. Every individual has the right to visit the temple and offer devotion to the deity there. A visit to the temple should not become a matter of discussion. It is obligatory on the part of every citizen to respect the court’s verdict,” she added.
