Review meetings held

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has stressed the importance of participatory planning for the reconstruction of the flood-affected areas in the State.

Addressing District Collectors during a review meeting here on Monday, he said, “We should stop lamenting our loss and focus our efforts on rebuilding Kerala. This calls for a great deal of participatory planning and resource mobilisation at the local level. People should be encouraged to join hands and involve themselves in the effort.”

Mr. Vijayan directed the Collectors to ensure speedy completion of the damage and loss assessment. He called for steps to prevent the outbreak of epidemics in the flood-hit areas.Mr. Vijayan urged officials to crack down on unauthorised collection of money for flood relief.

Over 3 lakh in camps

Addressing another review meeting on the flood situation later in the day, Mr. Vijayan said 3,42,699 people were still accommodated in 1,093 relief camps. As many as 322 people were killed in the floods since August 8.
