Removal of advocates’ names from rolls stayed

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday granted a stay against the removal of names of three advocates from the rolls of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

A Division Bench of Justices Pushpa Sathyanarayana and T. Krishnavalli granted the stay after advocates S. R. Balasubramanian, S. Saravanakumar and V. Subramani and law student Vetri Selvan appealed against a single bench order directing removal of their names from the rolls of the Bar Council.

It was alleged that the advocates and the law student from Dindigul were indulging in illegal activities. They were accused of taking possession of a property and putting up an advocate’s office by arm twisting the owner.

In their appeal, they said they were not given an opportunity to be heard. They further added that had notices been served on them they would have either appeared in person or through their counsel to give their version of the incident.
