‘Record date of complaint in FIRs’

The Madras High Court on Monday ordered the Director General of Police to issue a circular asking all police officials to make sure that the First Information Reports contain the date on which the complaints were lodged, and not the date when FIRs were booked, in the column meant for noting the date on which information was received.

Justices N. Kirubakaran and S. Baskaran issued the direction after coming across a case in which the Pallikaranai police here had booked an FIR on August 2 this year on a complaint lodged against a lawyer on October 22 last.
