B.S. Yeddyurappa, president, BJP State unit, urged party workers to gear up for the local body elections to prepare the ground work for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing a meeting on Sunday, Mr. Yedddyurappa told the workers to concentrate on wooing the OBCs, SC/STs and other minorities and to strengthen the party from the grassroots so as to win both the local body elections as also the Lok Sabha polls. He said this was an opportunity for the BJP to show its strength and the party should easily win 20 to 23 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. “This should be our contribution to the BJP’s national kitty in the 2019 Parliamentary elections,” he said, and announced that he would go on a State-wide tour, covering 15 to 16 districts, from August 9.
“Even in the Mysuru City Corporation polls, the BJP should be in a position to win a majority and the workers should be unperturbed of any alliance between the Congress and the JD(S),” said Mr. Yeddyurappa.
The workers were asked to highlight the achievements of the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and were apprised of who the Centre had released funds for various infrastructure development works. Mr. Yeddyurappa cited the 10-laning of the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway, a satellite railway station at Naganahalli, expansion of Mysuru airport, etc., as examples and wanted this message to be conveyed to the public at large.
He also lashed out at the State government saying there was no single noteworthy achievement so far and even the loan waiver for farmers was shrouded in confusion. He later participated in the Basava Jayanti celebrations at Suttur Mutt.
