The Police Department across the erstwhile Adilabad district observed Police Commemoration Day on Sunday. Superintendents of Police Vishnu S. Warrier (Adilabad), M. Malla Reddy (Kumram Bheem Asifabad) and C. Shashidhar Raju (Nirmal) laid wreaths on the Martyrs’ Column at their respective headquarters.
A rally of armed reserve police was taken out in Adilabad as part of the Commemoration Day. Mr. Warrier and Mr. Malla Reddy interacted with the families of police martyrs and presented them gifts. Adilabad SP said the nine families of police martyrs were given houses at Police Martyrs’ Colony in the town, which was the first of its kind in the State.
Earlier, police officers spoke of the sacrifices of the martyrs saying they gave away their lives in pursuance of peace.
This year, 179 police had lost their lives while discharging their duties, it was informed.
