Plea seeks amenities in public libraries in Ramanathapuram

A public interest litigation petition filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court sought a direction to maintain public libraries in Ramanathapuram district.

A Division Bench of Justices M. M. Sundresh and N. Sathish Kumar directed notice to the district authorities of Ramanathapuram.

The petitioner, G. Thirumurugan of Ramanathapuram, claimed that public libraries in the district were calling for attention as most of their buildings were in a dilapidated condition.

Drinking water

Also, basic facilities such as drinking water and toilets were lacking.

The petitioner sought a direction from the court for provision of basic amenities at these libraries in order to encourage readers to visit them.
