Stating that palliative care is the need of the hour, Metropolitan Commissioner P. Basanth Kumar said on Saturday that sympathy and empathy is quintessential to the palliation. At a walk organised on the occasion of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day here on Beach Road organised by Sneha Sandhya Age Care Foundation in association with Home Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, he stated that speaking to the patients in their own language would relieve the pain and help the doctors to treat in a positive way.
After flagging off the walk, he underlined the need for more doctors in this palliative care and called for introduction of MD (palliative care) with the help of policy makers and to enable more hospitals to reach out the needy patients.
Sneha Sandhya Age Care Foundation chairman G. Sambasiva Rao said people from all walks of life should contribute their mite to provide a healing touch to the sufferers. N.S.
