The team from National Public School, Koramangala aced the city finale of the inter-school quiz competition presented by National Insurance Company in association with The Hindu in School (THiS), held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Wednesday. The NPS (K) team of Shashank Jayant and Rohith Paul garnered 30 points in ‘Discover’, the third round of the competition, and built up a lead over the other teams to eventually emerge victorious.
“We are confident of doing well in the national finale. My interests are current affairs, history and sports while Rohith’s is in science and literature. Our preparation for the national finals will be intense,” said Shashank, who is a student of class 10.
Rohith, a class 11 student, said that participating in such competitions gives them good exposure and boosts their confidence. “If you are good in lateral thinking, you can win quiz competitions,” he said. They won the competition with a tally of 128 points and will represent Bengaluru at the national finale in Kolkata on August 31. Dhyan Vyas and Vishnu Sampathkumar of NPS-Indiranagar were first runners-up with 107 points. Prajwal V. and Sohan S. Desai from Sri Kumaran Children’s Home (CBSE) finished third with 86 points.
After the preliminary written round, six teams made it to the on-stage final round. The team of Pradyun Goel and A.P. Vaideeswaran from NPS-Koramangala; Ankit Sharma and Shrey Bhate from NPS-Indiranagar, and Sadhana V. and Megha P. from Sri Vani Public School took the fourth, fifth and sixth positions.
R. Surender and A.V. Rao, both regional managers with National Insurance Company, Bengaluru Regional Office, gave away prizes to the winners. Mr. Surender urged students to participate in many such competitions.
Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan hosted the show. In all, 424 teams from across the city participated. Everyone got participation certificates.
