More classrooms in district to go smart

About 200 smart classrooms to be set up using MLA funds will soon be added to the existing 3,450 in the 13 Assembly constituencies in the district under different educational schemes by the end of this academic year.

Mostly, students from village areas and coastal belts in the district are the expected beneficiaries. With the completion of the project, the students will be able to access modern computer facilities, screening projectors and interactive learning tools to change their conventional mode of learning and to compete with their counterparts in private management schools with better academic performance.

Phase Two in Elathur

In Elathur Assembly constituency, preparations are in the final phase to set up 21 smart classrooms in select high schools. Here, the project entered the second phase with the completion of 69 such smart classrooms. A seven-member sub-committee comprising experts in education sector is also functioning here to plan and execute the project on fast-track mode under the leadership of Elathur MLA and Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran.

In Koyilandy constituency, Disha, an exclusive educational improvement project, is steering the smart classroom projects and facility upgrade for schools. K. Dasan, MLA, who heads the schemes, says nearly Rs. 8 crore will be invested for the modernisation of select schools by giving priority on setting up smart classrooms in the constituency. More than five schools have already benefited from the scheme, he points out.

Perambra and Balussery constituencies too are in the race to increase the number of smart classrooms in schools.

Poonoor Government Higher Secondary School is the latest beneficiary to have sufficient number of smart classrooms. Perambra MLA and Minister for Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan heads the project implementation here.

In Balussery

Balussery too is stealing the show, setting up digitalised classrooms for even Upper Primary schoolchildren. The GLP school at Thaikkattussery is the first digitalised government UP school in the State with 12 digitalised classrooms. ‘Ente School’ is the main project here to set up more smart classrooms for schools.

Education Department officials say there are now around 3,450 smart classrooms in Kozhikode district in addition to the model school projects, where total revamp of facilities was carried out such as the Nadakkavu model under the PRISM (Promotion of Regional Schools to International Standards through Multiple Interventions) project.
