Major Leetul Gogoi who is facing a Court of Inquiry (CoI) ordered by the Army after being seen with a local woman in a Srinagar hotel is likely to face action for violating procedures.
An official source said he could be charged for violating two provisions of the Army which prohibit developing relations with a local in a disturbed area and another for violating standard procedure of staying away from the place of duty.
Sources confirmed that the CoI report is currently under the Srinagar based 15 corps and is being studied. “It is in court under legal vetting,” a source said.
On May 23, Major Gogoi was detained by the police after a scuffle broke out when he tried to get into a hotel with an 18-year-old local woman. Following this, the Army ordered a CoI to ascertain the facts.
Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat during a visit to the State shortly after the incident said that action would be taken if he was found guilty.
