The Legal Metrology Department on Wednesday registered cases against the managements of two super markets at Palarivattom and Kakkanad for selling sanitary napkins, which were recently exempted from the GST, at the earlier 12% tax rate.
R. Ram Mohan, Deputy Controller, central zone of the department, said that consumers had the right to get the zero tax benefit for sanitary napkins from July 27. He said that cases were registered against the super market stores for selling the product at the 12 per cent tax rate. Stringent action would be taken against shops and super markets selling sanitary napkins at the earlier tax rate, he said.

Mr. Ram Mohan said the manufacturers had to ensure that the new stocks reflected the decision to exempt GST for sanitary napkins, he said.
