The panel discussed security arrangements made for smooth conduct of the forthcoming panchayat elections.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Friday reviewed law and order situation across the state and stressed the need for a heightened vigil and ensuring the safety of protected persons, besides security of all important establishments and installations.
Chairing a high-level meeting attended by senior civil, police, Central armed police, army and intelligence agencies, Malik undertook a detailed review of security management issues, obtaining sector-wise assessments of prevailing security situation and challenges they face. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a sustained close watch on the ground situation and appreciated the sustained real time coordination and synergy between security forces and the civil administration.
He appreciated the manner in which security forces and the civil administration handled law and order situation in Kishtwar in the aftermath of the killing of a senior BJP leader and his brother. The panel discussed security arrangements made for smooth conduct of the forthcoming panchayat elections.
The meeting was attended by Governor’s advisor Vijay Kumar, Northern Army Commander Lt General Ranbir Singh, Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh among others.
Meanwhile, a delegation of people from Kishtwar accompanied by BJP MLAs Bali Bhagat and Sunil Sharma met the Governor and shared their concerns with him in the aftermath of the killing of two political leaders there. They suggested installation of CCTV cameras, restoration of night patrol and strengthening of security grid in the town.
The delegation also demanded security, government jobs and adequate monetary compensation to the next of kin of those killed. The governor assured the delegation that all possible steps will be taken to restore a sense of security among the local population.
