JD(S) stages protest against Centre’s delay in resolving Mahadayi dispute

The Janata Dal (Secular) members took out a rally against the Union government’s delay in resolving the the Mahadayi dispute here on Friday.

They took out a padayatra from the Suvarna Soudha to the Deputy Commissioner’s office shouting slogans against the Union government.

They took out a mock funeral procession of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and BJP national president Amit Shah and burnt their effigies at Rani Channamma Circle. Shankar Madalagi, district president, said that Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah had not kept their promise of ending the Mahadayi dispute in a month after the 2018 Assembly polls.

“Both the leaders had made these promises in their election rallies. But they have forgotten their promise now,” he said.

He also found fault with Mr. Yeddyurappa for remaining silent on this issue.

“Mr. Yeddyurappa, who claims to be the champion of farmers, should ensure that farmers get Mahadayi water immediately. He should convince the PM to talk to the Chief Minister of Goa and end the dispute once for all,” he said.

He demanded that the Union government strive to provide remunerative prices for farm produce and waive farm loans.
