Imported sand to arrive in a day or two

Chennai is likely to get a consignment of river sand imported from other countries in one or two days. This is expected to ease the acute sand shortage prevailing in the city and its neighbouring districts.

According to sources, Kamarajar Port Limited at Ennore would receive a consignment of sand from Malaysia. Rough sea conditions and inclement weather had delayed the ship. The imported sand would be sold by the Public Works Department. On Friday, the PWD asked people to register for loads of imported sand offloaded at the Thoothukudi port. Nearly 11,000 units would be offered in the first phase.
