A nine-year-old girl who went missing at a local festival on Friday, was found dead on the seashore at Kasimedu. The police identified the girl as Jessica, daughter of Prakash, a fisherman. Their family lives in Singarvelar Nagar, Kasimedu. The girl was studying class V at a government school in the area.
On Friday , the family went to attend a local temple festival held on the coast.The girl decided to go back home early without her parents. However on reaching home, her parents did not find their daughter. After searches proved futile and the couple lodged a complaint with the Kasimedu police, who refused to accept it as the area did not fall under its jurisdiction. The complaint was then lodged at the Fishing Harbour police station.
Meanwhile, the family spotted the child lying breathless on the Kasimedu shore and she was rushed to the Government Stanley Hospital. The doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The relatives and neighbours staged a protest by blocking the road near Suryanarayanan Garden, Kasimedu. They blamed the child’s death on the indifference of the police and alleged foul play. They dispersed after the police assured them of an investigation.
The police found that the girl suffered from frequent seizures. While she was playing on the shore, she had had a sudden seizure and collapsed, they said. Her body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
