The Fourth Town police on Friday after recording the statement of the 11 B.Sc. Nursing students of Shankari Nursing College in the presence of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Kartikeya registered cases against former Mayor D. Sanjay under Sections 354; 354A; and 342 of the Nirbhaya Act.
The police who went to Sanjay’s residence late in the afternoon to arrest him returned as he was not available and the doors were locked. Special teams were deployed to trace and arrest him, said the police.
Students of Shankari Nursing College who complained to the Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy on Thursday about Sanjay’s alleged misbehavior and sexual harassment came to the office of the CP on Friday morning to depose, which was recorded by a team led by Assistant CP M. Sudarshan. Earlier, they submitted a memorandum to the CP appealing him to take action against Sanjay, son of TRS Rajya Sabha member D. Srinivas and recommend to the Government to cancel the recognition of his college as many students were falling prey to his misbehaviour.
Mr. Sudarshan said the statements of the victims were recorded and an investigation is on. In the memorandum, the students said that Sanjay sexually harassed a student when she fell from a staircase in the college in the name of treatment at the college lab on July 26. The following day he took her and her friend to his home at Vinayaknagar and detained them in different rooms.
He allegedly demanded the injured student to remove her clothes to see bruises on her body.
