Fervour marks Ashadam Kruthika

‘Ashadam Kruthika’, the birthday of Lord Balasubramanian, was celebrated with religious fervour here on Sunday.

Unmindful of the sweltering heat, hundreds of devotees carried ‘Kruthika Velkavadi’ of various sizes and shapes tastefully decorated with peacock feathers and bronze bells.

Some of the devotees danced all the way from the Kasi Visveswaraswamy temple at Chennakesavaswamypet to Skandagiri along with the processional deities of Lord Kumaraswamy in a decked up chariot.

Devotees on a 41-day Deeksha concluded it.

The celestial marriage of Lord Subramanyaswamy was performed with his consorts Valli and Devasena by a group of priests led by Matampalli Dakshinamurthy at the Santhapeta Saibaba temple. Mother goddess was decorated with vegetables on the occasion. The festival was being held to cherish the divine mother-child relationship, said temple official Alahari Chenchala Rao.

250-year-old snakepit

A large number of women thronged the Subramanyaswamy temple near the Rangarayudu Cheruvu here and offered milk at a 250-year-old snakepit in the precincts.

A community feast was organised. Thousands of devotees witnessed a mega Karthika Deepam lit at Skandagiri at dusk.
