Thousands of people, including leaders of political parties and members of various associations, paid tributes to Dheeran Chinnamalai (1756-1805) during his 213th death anniversary at Odanilai village, near Arachalur, here on Friday.
Ministers K.A. Sengottaiyan (School Education), K.P. Thangamani (Electricity), K.C. Karuppannan (Environment), K.P. Anbalagan (Higher Education), Kadambur C. Raju (Information and Public Relations), Dindigul C. Srinivasan (Forest), Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan (Animal Husbandry) and M.R. Vijayabaskar (Transport) paid tributes to the statue of the freedom fighter at the manimandapam and honoured his descendants.
Mr. Sengottaiyan said that farmers welcomed the water release into Lower Bhavani Project canal on August 1, as against the usual water release date of August 15 and added that soon a bronze statue of the freedom fighter would be installed.
The Ministers inaugurated an exhibition that displays the history of the freedom fighter and also the various schemes of the State government and its achievements. Welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.60 crore to 677 beneficiaries was also distributed.
Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, P. Thangamani and Minister for Higher Education K.P. Anbalagan in the presence of District Revenue Officer R. Sugumar placed a garland at Sankari Fort and also paid floral tributes to the freedom fighter at the manimandapam here on Friday.
