In a rare gesture, leaders of the State unit of the CPI(M) paid tributes to late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the BJP’s office in Kamalalayam on Friday.
Party State secretary K. Balakrishnan, Central committee member T.K. Rangarajan, state-level office-bearers S.A. Perumal, V. Rajasekaran and T.K. Rajan went to the BJP office, where a portrait of Vajpayee was kept, and paid floral tributes.
Mr. Balakrishnan said Vajpayee was at the forefront of the fight for democratic rights during the Emergency. He stood firmly with the minorities during the Gujarat riots when he said ‘Raj dharma’ was not followed by those in power at the time, he said.
