The coalition government has taken up the issue of holding all the competitive examinations at the national level, especially recruitment process of Indian Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), in Kannada.
This had been raised by the previous Congress government also.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshara has written to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley criticising IBPS conducting the recruitment exams in only English and Hindi.
He termed it “gross injustice to the aspirants from Karnataka and other States who are well versed in Indian languages other than Hindi.”
A delegation from Karnataka had earlier met Union Ministers several times and appealed against change in examinations being conducted by the Centre. Dr. Parameshwara said the present system of recruitment is against the very spirit of federalism and interests of not just the people of Karnataka, but those from other States as well.
Repeated requests
Dr. Parameshwara regretted that despite repeated requests from the government and various Kannada authorities “no action has been taken to make necessary changes to the clauses of IBPS recruitment process”.
