Cheating case registered against retired bank manager

The police are on the lookout for a private bank manager for allegedly siphoning off money from the customers’ bank accounts to the tune of Rs. 5.60 lakh here on Friday.

The fraud took place in the Lakshmi Vilas Bank that was functioning at Ponammapet.

Last month, Senthil Kumar, who assumed charge as the new branch manager, inspected the records.

He found that the retired manager Balakrishnan had withdrawn Rs. 35,000 from a customer’s savings bank account.

Verification of more documents revealed that Balakrishnan had withdrawn Rs. 5.60 lakh from a total of five customers’ account.

Customers had also informed the bank that they did not withdraw the money. It was revealed that Balakrishnan had signed the withdrawal challan by himself and took the money.

Special teams

Senthil Kumar lodged a complaint with the City Police Commissioner K. Shankar, who formed special teams to conduct inquiry. Investigation confirmed that cheating had taken place and based on the complaint, a case was registered.

The police said that Balakrishnan’s native place is Chennai and he had stayed at Vidhya Nagar in the area while in service. Hence, special teams were sent to Chennai to nab him.
