For the second time in the current monsoon season, entry of visitors to Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir and Brindavan Gardens has been banned, and boating at the Ranganathittu bird sanctuary has been suspended for an indefinite period, following heavy release from the KRS.
All the three tourist places near Srirangapatna of Mandya district attract several thousands of visitors every year.
Considering the safety of visitors owing to the flood-like situation in Cauvery, because of release of around 45,000 cusecs of water from the KRS, the authorities imposed restrictions on Thursday morning.
The suspension of boat rides at Ranganathittu by the Forest Department, its custodian, has severely disappointed the visitors.
The department has installed boards announcing the cancellation of boat rides. The facility provides an exciting experience of watching the avians from close quarters.
Nevertheless, entry to the sanctuary is open to the public. The visitors can enjoy the scenic bird sanctuary and swollen Cauvery from the watch tower and walkways, Forest officials said.
Entry to the KRS and Brindavan Gardens, and the bird sanctuary was restricted for many days from July 14 because of similar circumstances.
