The crucial meeting between the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and three members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) ended on a positive note here on Tuesday.
Actor Mohanlal, president of the association, said that a special general body meeting will be convened soon to discuss the issues raised by its three members who include actors Revathy, Padmapriya, and Parvathy. “The discussions will continue. But there are no issues that could not be resolved among us. We have decided to amend the bylaws of the association and to set up a disciplinary committee,” he said.
Asked whether AMMA’s executive committee had accepted the issues raised by the WCC, Ms. Revathy said that they had attended the meeting not as representatives of the collective, but as life-time members of AMMA. “We had a healthy discussion,” said Ms. Padmapriya.
However, the three WCC members declined to comment on whether the executive committee accepted their position that the issue of reinstating actor Dileep, a key accused in an actor abduction case, into the association was not included on the agenda of the general body meet held on June 24.
On the decision by two women members of the association’s executive committee deciding to implead themselves in the case involving the abduction and sexual assault on a woman actor, actor Jagadeesh, treasurer of the association, said that they had decided to implead in the case on their own and without seeking the consent of the executive committee.
He said that it was done with good intention, even though there were lapses in their petition. Actor Rachana Narayanankutty, who had sought to implead in the case along with actor Honey Rose, denied that they had been made scapegoats in the whole issue.
She admitted that they had not informed the woman actor in advance that they had plans to implead in the case.
Mr. Mohanlal rejected reports of his willingness to resign from the post of president owing to the internal differences on the issue of its members impleading in the case.
Actor Joy Mathew, who was also invited to the meet along with actor Shammi Thilakan, said that the executive committee had agreed to convene a special general body meeting to resolve various issues raised by its members. He also pointed out that the committee accepted that the issue of reinstating Mr. Dileep into the association was not included on the agenda of the general body meeting held on June 24.
