Accused in murder of realtors took police for a ride for over a month

Tejas, 29, realtor from Sarakki, who is the prime accused in the kidnap and murder of two business partners on June 27, misguided the police for over a month and also kept in touch with the families of the victims, before he was arrested recently, the city police said.

Tejas, who is reportedly a close associate of a senior politician, had business dealings with A. Balaji from Girinagar and Prasad Babu from R.R. Nagar, and is believed to have cheated them of over Rs. 60 lakh.

When the duo started demanding return of their money, Tejas allegedly kidnapped and killed them on June 27.

He then concocted a story about the duo being close associates of Cycle Ravi, a rowdy who was recently arrested after a shoot-out. He said they had gone underground after the arrest of Cycle Ravi and would return soon.

However, luck ran out for him when a special team of the police, after questioning over 70 people and analysing hundreds of CCTV camera footage, picked up Anil, 29, and Satish, 24, who, upon detailed questioning, revealed the murder plot.

Based on their confession, the police arrested Tejas and the remaining accused — Manikantan, 28, Anand, 29, Krishna, 28, Harish Kumar, 37, Mukesh, 26, Balaji M, 25, and Yuvaraja 31.

On Sunday, the police exhumed the bodies of Balaji and Prasad Babu, who were buried in a farmhouse after they were set on fire.
