Dermot O’Leary, 47 has had a lot to celebrate over the past few months despite the on-going coronavirus pandemic, including his appointment to hosting This Morning alongside Alison Hammond and welcoming his first child Kasper with wife Dee Koppang, 42, in June of last year. The pair tied the knot in 2012, a whole decade after first meeting, and Dermot revealed the secret behind their happy marriage is not being “too beholden” to each other.

In a recent interview, the ITV star admitted there was “no nonsense” back and fourth rows about who does what around the house and helping out with the baby.

He explained it all comes down to who they are as people.

“There is no secret,” he admitted, “I really like her, so she’s my best friend.

“I think not being in each others pockets all the time and giving each other space is a massive thing.

“We’ve never been too beholden to each other.”

He revealed that they both do their fair share of nappy changing now their little one is here, but they share the responsibility amicably.

“We both do our fair share of that but as well as that, if someone wants to go out, they go out,” he told OK! Magazine.

“There’s none of that kind of nonsense of ‘I went out on Tuesday, so you go out on Thursday.’

“You wouldn’t treat your best mate like that, so don’t treat your wife or husband like that,” he shrugged.

Dee is best known for her directorial work on The Crown, Justin Bieber: All Around the World and has just finished a stint on Netflix’ latest period drama Bridgerton.

The former X Factor host proposed during a romantic trip to New York in November 2011, with the two marrying a year later in an intimate ceremony at St Mary’s Church in Chiddingstone.

Several of their A-list pals were in attendance including Holly Willoughby, James Corden, Keith Lemon and Fearne Cotton.

18 years after they met, they welcomed Kasper into their family of two on 23rd June 2020, with Dee posting a loving message on Instagram to mark his arrival.

“Welcome to the world baby Koppang O’Leary… We’re delighted to announce that we’ve had a baby! A little boy born on Tuesday 23rd June 2020 (Sankthansaften/Midsummer for us Norwegians) at 8.19 am, weighing in at 6lb 13oz.

“Enjoying the cuddles in the newborn bubble… cats yet to be 100% convinced. Lots of love, Dee & Dermot.”

Dermot has since described little Kaspar as “brilliant” and said that the couple are “having a great time” learning the ropes as new parents.

The new dad added that they were in “that sort of lovely foggy period of just, kind of sleepless love”.

Speaking on his BBC radio show in the days after Kasper’s birth, the 47-year-old told listeners the origins of his name, admitting Dee was “very insistent” on the unique spelling of Kasper with a K.

And Kasper Koppang O’Leary does indeed have ring to it!
